Tangerine Tango: the color of 2012
The color specialists at Pantone have revealed their pick for the color of 2012, and it’s a bright orange red color pictured below:

The color was seen a lot in shows such as Tommy Hilfiger, Nanette Lepore, and Elie Tahari during NYFW last September for the Spring/Summer collections. I love this color on nails and lips, and I’ve also noticed it in eye shadows (although I’m not convinced that many people can pull it off). Try to brighten your home with this color too; think tangerine tango pillows or tablecloths.
Tangerine tango is a warm, optimistic, uplifting color as opposed to the calm, soothing color of turquoise in 2010. The press release said: “In many cultures, turquoise occupies a very special position in the world of color. It is believed to be a protective talisman, a color of deep compassion and healing, and a color of faith and truth, inspired by water and sky. Through years of color word-association studies, we also find that Turquoise represents an escape to many–taking them to a tropical paradise that is pleasant and inviting, even if only a fantasy.”

Honeysuckle is the color of 2011. If you were not aware of this, you still have a few weeks to make the most of this color. The press release this past year said: “In times of stress, we need something to lift our spirits. Honeysuckle is a captivating, stimulating color that gets the adrenaline going-perfect to ward off the blues.” They continued to explain that the color “encourages us to face everyday troubles with verve and vigor.”

Sephora will be launching a special Color of the Year beauty collection in 2012. Pantone stated that next year’s color “continues to provide the energy boost we need to recharge and move forward. Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.” Furthermore, Leatrice Eiseman, Pantone’s executive director, explained that “there’s the element of encouragement with orange, it’s building on the ideas of courage and action, that we want to move on to better things. I think it would be a disservice to go with a relaxed, soothing color now.”
