Betsey Johnson Fall/Winter 2012
Betsey’s collection this season was inspired by the 1960’s, and she had Beatles music (starting with Lucy in the sky with diamonds, which is her granddaughter’s favorite song) playing during her show, calling it Betseymania as opposed to Beatlemania. Even though she borrowed a lot of elements from the 60’s, she kept her signature bright neon colors and prom dress styles in...

Rubin & Chapelle Fall/Winter 2012
Rubin & Chapelle presented their new collection, titled “Gold Tie,” which consisted of elegant black and gold dresses, some of which had corsets or ties around the waist. There was a 1920’s feel to the collection, and the pieces were inspired by lingerie in terms of how they were cut and the fabric used.

Remembering Zelda Kaplan
Zelda Kaplan, 95, collapsed and passed away at the beginning of Joanna Mastroianni’s NYFW show Wednesday afternoon at Lincoln Center (pictured sitting in the front row above). Mastroianni was one of Zelda’s favorite designers. She collapsed onto Ruth Finley’s lap, the woman who created the Fashion Calendar, who was sitting next...

New York Fashion Week After Parties
I’ve put together a list of some NYFW parties, but I will continue to update the list during fashion week (which begins tomorrow). Your best bet is to go to Le Baron, Red Egg, Boom Boom Room, and Electric Room as I’m sure they will be hosting after parties most nights of the week. Acme and Super Linda will be hosting NYFW dinners throughout the week. Acme is hosting private events...

Scoop NYC Sale
I should have posted about this last weekend, but it’s going on until the end of the month, and they are replacing items they sell out of all month (it’s all coming from the warehouse). I stopped by the Meatpacking store (430 W. 14th St.) last Sunday thinking the choices would be slim since the sale started last week. I couldn’t believe what great deals I found; many...

LF Semi-Annual sale this weekend
This is a view of the Soho store on Spring St. There is also one on 5th Ave. (between 19th and 20th) as well as stores in Southampton, White Plains, Greenwich, Westport, Boston, Miami, LA (where they originated so there are 5 of them), Santa Barbara, SF, and Dallas. It’s one of my favorite stores, because there is such an eclectic mix of clothes, shoes, and accessories that you can find,...

NYC Restaurants for Valentine's Day Dinner
One of my friends asked me if I could recommend some restaurants for him where he could take a girl he is interested in for Valentine’s Day and asked me to wait for him to make some reservations before doing a post on it. It’s now one week before the big day, so it’s time to make sure you have a reservation for that evening. I’ve listed a dozen options, somewhat in order,...

Super Bowl After Party Tonight
I got this email yesterday in addition to many other “official” super bowl parties for tonight. Steve Tisch gave the rights away to 1oak for the official Giants party tonight; he will be there along with the players. As for the special surprise performance, there is a very good chance that it will be Kanye West. Steve Tisch has a dinner reservation at Abe & Arthur’s, so...

Male Style Icons
As a follow up to my last post, I wanted to list a dozen men who I think have great style. Ryan Gosling - Whether he is dressed up at a red carpet event or dressed casually to walk his dog, this actor always looks good. John Legend - Not only do I like his music, but I also really like his style. Having a model fiancee like Chrissy Teigen probably helps his sense of fashion a little. ...

Female Style Icons
The following is a list of a dozen ladies who I think have great style. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen - I love their clothing lines, The Row and Elizabeth & James. I read Olsens Anonymous daily for inspiration from their most current looks (recently the blog has started adding photos of the twins’ sister, Elizabeth, as well). I like Ashley’s style the most, but Mary-Kate often puts...

Man Buns
The New York Times had an article today about man buns: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/26/fashion/in-brooklyn-committing-to-a-man-bun.html They give advice for men who want to try this hairstyle: Alexander Kellum, 31, a fine-arts painter and yoga teacher who lives in Williamsburg, bends forward and pulls his long chestnut hair in front of him; then he performs a twisting and wrapping motion until...

Favorite Makeup
I wanted to share my favorite makeup, so I took everything out of my makeup bag that I travel with and made a list of the items. Click the images to purchase the items from Amazon (most of them are discounted). Benefit Feelin’ Cheeky Minis ($25 for the travel size trio set or $29 each for one full size bottle) High beam is my favorite (by far the best highlighter I’ve ever tried); I...

1oak nyc closed until Jan. 17
I received an email yesterday from 1oak saying that they will be closed for the next 2 weeks. They will reopen on Jan. 17 with a “new look,” including new lights and sound system. I wonder how much they will change the appearance of the club—personally, I wouldn’t change anything, but I’ll post photos if they change a lot when they reopen. I don’t appreciate...

New Year's Eve Dresses
New Year’s Eve is less than a week away, so it’s time to find a dress if you’re planning to go out. For New Year’s Eve, I like dresses that stand out; this usually means lots of sequins or bright colors. Just make sure that it’s comfortable enough to dance in for the whole night. The following dresses are some of my favorites for this occasion. I love this Balmain...

Are runway models too skinny?
There has been a lot of talk lately about how skinny models are becoming, especially after H&M revealed that their online models are created from computerized images with real models’ heads.                         Moreover, Karlie Kloss’ photos in Italian Vogue stirred some controversy last week.                           Franca Sozzani, Vogue Italia editor, defended the...

They are temporary tattoos that last up to 8 hours and are FDA approved as vegan and are vitamin enhanced. The tattoos range from $9.99 to $14.95, and each package contains 3 applications. Glasses-not so nerdy anymore
Over the weekend, I got this pair of Barton Perreira glasses.                                                  I’ve always been a fan of Oliver Peoples. Soon after OP was acquired by Oakley, Bill Barton resigned as President and Patty Perreira resigned as VP of design. This is when the Barton Perreira line of glasses was born. The frames are hand made in Japan, they’re top quality,...

Are models too young these days?
Balenciaga selected 15-year-old Juliane Gruner, 17-year-old Laura Kampman, 15-year-old Kirstin Liljegren, and 15-year-old Rosie Tapner (left to right) for their Spring 2012 ad campaign that will be shot by Steven Meisel. Upscale Russian Karaoke in Midtown
Jelsamino, a Russian style karaoke lounge, is opening next month at the Dream Hotel (not to be confused with Dream Downtown). It is located at 210 W. 55th St. (Broadway/7th). The Ginza Group that has opened the Mari Vanna brand of Russian restaurants is behind this project. Instead of Korean karaoke places with private rooms and televisions, this bar will provide live music and professional...

Cap toe pumps
YSL, Chanel, Givenchy, and Ferragamo have come out with new cap toe pumps this season. I think the Louboutin Calypso heels started this trend in 2009.                                  The YSL tribtoo heels are my favorite of this style (plus they’re extremely comfortable); they come in many colors, but I want to get the grey ones:                                       The Ferragamo...

Tangerine Tango: the color of 2012
The color specialists at Pantone have revealed their pick for the color of 2012, and it’s a bright orange red color pictured below:                          The color was seen a lot in shows such as Tommy Hilfiger, Nanette Lepore, and Elie Tahari during NYFW last September for the Spring/Summer collections. I love this color on nails and lips, and I’ve also noticed it in eye shadows...

NY DJ run over by a cab while sleeping in hotel...
New York D.J. Jonathan Toubin was in critical condition (now stable) after a taxi ran into his motel room yesterday morning and ran him over. A black-and-white Radio Cab had plowed through bamboo bushes and into the ground floor room that was occupied by Toubin who was in Portland, Oregon to DJ a show Thursday night at a Southeast Portland club. He was found stuck under the front of the car. The...

CFDA agrees to move NYFW dates
This past September, there was a lot of talk about changing the dates of NYFW. Normally, it starts on the first Thursday of September and goes for one week. This past September, Milan moved up its schedule, so it overlapped with London Fashion Week. This made it so that editors, buyers, and models had to choose between London and Milan. London could not adjust its fashion week because it’s...

Phillip Lim 31 Hour Bags
Phillip Lim has launched a 31 Hour bag line for the man or woman who needs more than 24 hours in a day. I’m looking forward to these, because I already really like his satchels; the large ones start at $895 and the small ones start at $298.                        The pashli satchel comes in many colors and textures, and I love the zippers:  The 31 hour bag will be available in many...

Blu Moon Dresses
I really like the dresses made by LA brand Blu Moon and have a couple short ones and one long floral one. They’re easy to wear casually to the beach or to dress up at night. They’re also very light weight and convenient for travel (the ones I have are 100% rayon, but some are silk). They’re great for summer, but you can throw a sweater over the long dresses or tights under the...
